Hey friend,

If you are reading this article it means you are the chosen one and this is no accident so try to finish this short article.

If you know me well, you would notice that I make a lot of reference to bible stories because I have learned a lot from the word of God. I get insights for living from these stories and how they affect our everyday life.

Today, I want to talk about internships and careers because majority of my audience are young people which means they are currently interning or just started working professionally but before I start, I want to tell us about this guy called Samuel.

There was this experienced professional called Eli that helped Samuel’s mother before Samuel was born, because of this great help, Samuel’s mum made a decision that Eli was going to mentor and train Samuel.

So lowkey, Samuel did not have a choice (even though he had choices)than to go to Eli for mentorship, internship and all the ships you know. Samuel started mentorship with Eli at a period where Eli sons were wayward, they were misbehaving, getting in a lot scandals and committing different crimes but Samuel and his mother still went ahead with the training because they knew Eli was knowledgeable and experienced.

This internship experience changed Samuel’s life for good, it was so good that Samuel started appointing Kings and I will be sharing how in the next artcile but for now, I want you to reflect on some points.

How many times have you refused an opportunity to learn because of what you heard without confirming? Many of us are refusing to learn from the Eli’s in our lives because we know their children, their relationships, their personal business or their credit history.

Samuel could have decided to intern elsewhere he was going to get the position because the bible records that as Samuel grew in favour both with God and men so this means Samuel was a starboy and could afford to work elsewhere but he stayed to learn from Eli because Eli had something he was looking for. I know your current workplace is not great, your manager is always angry, I understand that the salary is “competitive” but I would advise that you play the long term game of delaying gratification if that is your place of assignment.

How often do we consider recommendations from our parents, mentors, senior colleagues and other people who mean well for us? Samuel could have refused the internship opportunity on the basis that his mum was not educated.

Sometimes the key to your next level could be that course someone is asking you to take, that event or meeting someone is begging you to go, that attitude someone is asking you to change.

I am sharing this Samuel story with us because I know we all have our Samuel moments and we will be looking at those moments in this series.

Feel free to share, comment and ask questions.

Till i write to you again,

Erioluwa

PS: The bible reference can be seen in 1 Samuel chapters 1 to 5
